Managed and successfully executed the relocation of the company's co-location environment to a new location and provider.
Acted as the network administrator for the Boston office, the data center, and the company's wide area network (WAN) that connected 5 locations across the nation.
Responsible for administration and deployment of customer facing and internal GNU/Linux and Windows 2003 servers which hosted services including web sites, a Internet web crawling and caching engine, FTP/SFTP sites, and email.
Managed Active Directory, Exchange 2003, Blackberry Enterprise Server, and tape backups.
Implemented a redesign of the WAN from a site-to-site VPN tunnel solution to a MPLS solution and implemented and designed a DMZ.
Configured and administered the company's Cisco routers and switches. Configuration areas included: Network Address Translation (NAT), Access Control Lists (ACL), IPsec site-to-site and client-initiated Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), Policy Based Routing (PBR), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), ip accounting, route maps, Context-Based Access Control (CBAC), Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), and multi-homing.
Designed and implemented a device level and connection level fully redundant network with BGP, HSRP, STP, and NIC teaming/bonding at the data center.
Wrote Bash, Perl, and Python scripts to automate server maintenance, deployment, and monitoring.
Configured Nagios for monitoring of Windows and GNU/Linux servers, services, and network devices.
Wrote custom scripts for Nagios to monitor the company's web applications.

Responsible for remote administration of multiple Linux clusters that hosted various LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) based web applications.
Acted as a consultant in administering GNU/Linux clusters for clients.

I maintain a web log where I write original articles that are about various computing solutions I have come up with at http://www.kbrandt.com. I also have written a few CPAN modules in Perl, one for UPS package tracking and one as an API to TVRage.
Outside of my computer interests I am also a classical double bassist. I studied with the assistant principal of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, one of the founding members of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and the principal bassist of the Cleveland Orchestra. A notable concert I played since graduating school was as a substitute with the New World Symphony in Miami with Itzhak Perlman conducting.
For hobbies I enjoy photography, running, and riding my Harley. I currently live with my wife Charlsie and my two cats and dog in sunny Florida.
