EnergySavvy is looking to add a software engineer specializing in data science to our productive development team. You will work closely with internal and external subject matter and modeling experts to expand upon our Optix Evaluate product, turning theory and ideas into ground-breaking practice. You will help to build and reduce to code mathematical, statistical, and machine learning techniques for modelling at scale, creating a scalable data pipeline for importing, processing, and making terabytes of data available for querying. You will be a key player on the team that is poised to transform the $10 billion/ year market for energy efficiency to greater transparency and quantification, and maybe just save the planet in the process. 

Software engineering is the heart of our company. We rely on developers to work across the company to drive features and come up with innovative ideas. This position will work to digest applied math concepts, and work with a smart engineering team to turn that into code that can operate on a massive scale, while iterating rapidly and focusing on clean code. This means a leaner specification process and an excellent end product that's been built with the type of feedback you can only get by trying out aspects of each feature as they're developed.

You can deploy your creations early and often to live customers, while helping define the extension of our platform to scale from gigabytes of data to terabytes (and perhaps beyond). We don't care if you've never tried Python or Django, EnergySavvy embraces smart software engineers who are eager to learn.

Compétences et exigences


  • Work with internal and external experts in each of building science, data analytics, data modeling, and user experience to create functional prototypes and full-blown production code.

  • Read and digest literature in the fields of building science, statistics, and mathematical modeling to inform and serve as the basis for stuff you code.

  • Deliver end-user facing analytics and insights based on massive data sets of project and usage information, using an understanding of math and statistics to help users understand both early warnings and uncertainty.

  • Enable the team to extract and process massive data to support today’s modeling and analysis challenges and transform applications for energy data.

  • Help the team to productize both the data processing and analysis to enable robust and systematic analysis / value from models.

  • Ideal candidates should also be able to work with subject matter experts, advisors, and academic literature to apply machine learning, statistical, and analytical models to solve specific business challenges.


  • B.S. or higher in Applied Math, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.

  • 3+ years experience in software development for large-scale data handling or analysis in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem solving ability.

  • Commercial experience programming for Big Data systems (Hadoop, Storm, Titan, Spark, Kinesis, BigQuery, etc.).

  • Experience in quantitative programming packages and languages – like R, SAS, MATLAB, SPSS, Python, Pig, etc.

  • Some background in statistical or mathematical modeling, machine learning, predictive analysis or related fields.

  • Experience with data visualization techniques.

  • A well-tuned, innate yet ironic laziness that drives you to simplify your environment, specs and test processes so you can focus creating awesome software.

  • Past success with significant projects that involved an understanding of most or all of the following: software architecture, performance, scaling, dinosaurs and API design
